AFTERCARE
You are responsible for taking care of your tattoo. Please follow these aftercare instructions to ensure a properly healed tattoo. Do not hesitate to call if you have any questions.
YES:
Leave the bandage on for 4-12 hours.
Wash your hands thoroughly and carefully remove the bandage
Wash the tattoo with your fingertips and mild soap. Do not use a washcloth, sponge, or anything that will scrape the tattoo. Make sure all the ointment and blood are washed off.
Let the tattoo air dry. You may pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. DO NOT SCRUB.
With your clean hands, apply a water-based, fragrance-free lotion such as Lubriderm. H2Ocean Tattoo Formula and Tattoo Tonic are also great.
Use aftercare products sparingly!!!
Wear loose, clean, comfortable clothing.
Wash the tattoo two to three times a day, or when necessary. If the tattoo gets dirty or sweaty, wash & re-moisturize, but don’t overdo it.
Flaking and scabbing are normal. Let the scabs fall off by themselves.
Normal healing time is 6 weeks. The tattoo must be fully healed before a touch-up can be done.
NO:
Do not rebandage the tattoo.
The showers are great. Swimming, hot tubs, saunas, or otherwise immersing the tattoo is not ok during the healing period.
Keep out of sunlight. UV rays will fade your tattoo.
Do not use bacitracin, Neosporin, fragranced lotions, your friend’s used bottle of their lotion, etc.
Do not over-moisturize the tattoo. It needs to breathe.
Do not pick the scabs off or scratch the tattoo.
Do not allow others to touch the healing tattoo.
PIGMENT LIGHTENING
There are many reasons one may want a tattoo removed or covered up. Whatever the reason may be, laser removal is the first solution many people think of, or perhaps it’s some topical agent a friend suggested because they saw the ad on TV.
Skeleton Key Tattoo offers a pigment removal method employed by many cosmetic tattoo artists that involves using all-natural sea salt and our normal tattooing equipment. This is a safe and more affordable alternative to laser removal. It is important to remember that we can not guarantee 100% removal, however, we may be able to lighten the old tattoo enough to make it easier to hide it with a new tattoo design. Multiple sessions are usually necessary to achieve the desired effect. The number of sessions necessary depends on the individual and results will vary.
We require an in-person consultation for saline pigment lightening. The client and artist will determine the desired goal for the procedure, how many pigment lightening sessions may be necessary, as well as evaluate other factors including, but not limited to skin condition (skin type, psoriasis, eczema, prone to keloids/scarring), allergies, etc.
When choosing a tattoo removal method, it is important to research your options carefully. Skin types vary and not all tattoo removal options may be the best one for your skin. Meet the removal technician in person, look at pictures of previous work, and be wary of TV and radio commercials for topical agents.
